What The Green Movement Got Wrong...
A group of environmentalists across the world are challenging the movement they helped to create. They believe that in order to save the planet, humanity must embrace the very science and technology they once so stridently opposed. In this 75-minute film, these life-long diehard greens advocate radical solutions to climate change which include GM crops and nuclear energy.
Immediately Followed By:
What The Green Movement Got Wrong: The Debate...
A studio debate, chaired by Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow, to discuss the issues raised in the preceding documentary `What the Green Movement Got Wrong'.
(Write ups copied from the Daily Express web site...)
I think they are being repeated at some obscure time early on Friday morning...

Re: What The Green Movement Got Wrong - TV Progs tonight...
My blood pressure survived ... but it was largely a load of cobblers. Paul wanted to watch it, so I did lots of work on the laptop while giving it an ear. Very spurious stuff from both sides that gets knocked down by other scientists who were, unfortunately, not even mentioned.
Both sides got up my nose ... but then as a founder member of Greenpeace who gave up the ghost on Green movements in general after the Brent Spar fiasco and because they confuse nuclear energy with nuclear bombs ... but let's not go there. I know I'm out on a limb with that one in this group !!!
I suppose, in the absence of Big Brother, confrontationl hogwash like this keeps the bread-n-circus folk happy ...
I'd rather read the science than watch the popular programmes.
Disgusted (Tunbridge Wells)

no, I'm with you there.
Sadly the truth of the matter is the greatest enemy of the Green movement has been the green movement itself.

I gave up on the "green" movement, my focus is on sustainability these days.
Think that I will give this programme a miss and watch Big Bang theory instead ...

LOL - I think you'd be on a winner doing that, Badger, both things
Glad I got one member of the backing group with me, Billy, *grin* ... or I might get nuked until I glowed

I don't confuse Nuclear energy with Nuclear bombs.
I still dislike it (them) though , though and have sound scientific reasons for so doing.
But yes I have now had enough of "Greens" on the whole...I would rather be doing, than talking about it

Does anyone really confuse the two ? On the other hand, many people may mentally associate them, which is scarcely surprising given how intimately linked their history has been. It does not help that the early nuclear reactors, whilst claimed to be built to generate electricity "too cheap to meter", were actually primarily intended to make isotopes for weapons.Compostwoman wrote:I don't confuse Nuclear energy with Nuclear bombs.
Hmm. I still don't like the problems of nuclear. But as an EE I do believe that, unless we can radically cut usage (and I believe that will not happen, unfortunately), for the short to medium term is it nuclear or candles. Indeed, if it is left much longer it will be just candles.still dislike it (them) though , though and have sound scientific reasons for so doing

Now that I really agree with

The cost of nuclear power is one of my soap box issues.
The full cycle cost is never shown, including the full cost of mining (radation sickness and radioactive slag heaps in Africa), storage, security, cleaning, desposing of waste and the complete decommisioning of the site. No way would it be cost effective...and loans at the standard interest rate (not super cheap money from the government)
