I guess I should reply to this one !

My favourite chilli at the moment is Rocoto. It's a bit special, because it is both hot and reasonably large and fleshy. It's an odditiy, having hairy leaves, purple flowers and black seeds, and it grows to some height ! I used to grow a Habanero, I don't know which variety, but the original seed came from a chilli bought at a carribean grocers in Oxford, and I saved it for many years. Now, sadly, my chilli-hardness has reduced due to the need for family friendly meals, and the Rocoto works well in dishes designed for Habanero but without quite so much fire. It also makes a nice salsa which can perk up a milder meal.

I also grow every year: Hungarian wax for stuffing, Ancho and Mulato for Mexican dishes. Most of the latter get dried by stringing them up over a radiator. I usually grow one or two varieties for drying - in the last couple of years I've grown Prarie fire (HOT) and Thai Dragon - which I got in a swap with someone on the NHF forum.

For sweet peppers I'm still trying to find varieties that give me really good results. Giallo d'Asti from Seeds of Italy gave some of the best so far, in fact so big that the best plant fell off the bench under the weight of fruit Crying or Very sad

I'll just mention that my offer of chilli seeds is still open.

I'd love to grow sweet peppers, but don't have the space in the greenhouse at the mo. But thanks for the tip chillihead - when I have tried it, I've never got very big fruit, so I shall have to look out that variety to give a go when I get space.

Chillis - again, don't normally do this, but am trying it this year, having just run out of dried chillis. I've found a variety called 'nigel's outdoor chilli', which is bred to be grown outdoors in a UK climate - and it apparantly works in Wales, so bound to be ok here too (midlands, UK).
