I'm going to have to pass on this because I've just got too much on at the moment, and things are getting busier by the day....
Will look forward to seeing the photos though

Travelling Scarf - Page 2 Empty Re: Travelling Scarf

Post by Adrian 17th February 2011, 1:23 pm

Hey

Just a thought, but why not make this a scarf swap - then folk can work at their own pace and just has one lot of postage to lay out - gods know its stupid high over here...

BJM can hold the addresses etc.

So folk can pm her with Names & addresses and colour preferences and then she can randomly allocate and folk can just work when they have chance and send when ready and every one gets a lovely scarf..

just a thought as I may be able to find time to participate in a slower paced one off postage thing and it will give me an excuse to learn Filet crochet...

I don't think I'm quite as accomplished a knitter as is needed for a project like this. Would definitely love to see some piccies of some finished ones though!

well it won't quite be the travelling scarf, (a number of people knitting/crocheting the same scarf) but it does sound a lot simpler!! I concur Smile I already have a few addresses, so anyone else keen just pm me and I will random allocate who you are knitting/crocheting for. phew good thinking badger!

If you do the travelling scarf thing let me know and I will have a go...but don't really want to make and receive just a scarf but a mish-mash full of character travelling scarf sounds awesome to me Smile

Ok I am still keen to do this, I think I would like to stick to the original travelling scarf, I am happy to spend the money myself on postage, as it will only be a few of us participating.

To make things simpler I will start, then I will send the person I am sending to, the person they are sending to, and so forth.

After I have started I will then randomly select someone else to start a new scarf. To make prices for postage easier, I will try to make sure it only travels internationally as little as possible.

How does that sound to everyone? Flute I wish you would join us, accomplished or not, it will add to the character of the finished scarves.

Thanks BJM! Travelling Scarf - Page 2 850562

I think I still don't quite understand how it will work from person to person though? Plus, I may not be very quick if I get it before june as got quite a few exams coming up. If you don't mind me taking a little while (and don't mind garter stitch I think it is!), I would definitely love to do it. May have to ask Pol how to change colours first! Very Happy

If you don't feel confident to add rows, why not add embellishments, like sew on a flower, or weave in some wool, ribbon etc? It may not add length to the scarves but would add character and your part Smile

I didn't think of that! (she says raiding her crafty box...) Very Happy

If that's alright BJM, it would be quicker, and it would probably end up looking neater! I shall give the knitting a try too, I keep meaning to ask about changing colours when I knit so this gives me a good excuse! Smile Shall I send a pm?

ahhthis has gone the way of some of my other grande ideas! I wil sneakily use my address list to post a special suprise to someone, think of it as a random act of woolly kindness Travelling Scarf - Page 2 79689 and that person may feel the urge to pass along another gift Wink
