The "Greenest Government ever" decide to pursue their pledge to "massively increase the amount of renewable energy created", by announcing plans to make crippling cuts to Feed-in-tariffs.

Is that 'Green' as in looking after the environment, or 'Green' as in inexperienced and naive?

Ok, if you wanted to generate and get the FiT from a huge pv array on a school or office etc you will lose out, but only if you are generating more than 50 kW.

It is still an incentive to generate, however, even at a piddling ly low return. Home generators ( such as us) are not affected by this ( at the moment but we are not holding our breath!)

However, under the proposals contained in the consultation
installations with 50kW to 150kW will receive 19p/kWh, mid-sized
installations with 150kW to 250kW capacity will receive 15p/kWh, and
solar farms with between 250kW and 5MW will receive just 8.5p/kWh.
If adopted the proposals would mean a large rooftop installation on a
school or office with 100kW capacity would see available incentives cut
42 per cent, while solar farms with up to 5MW such as many of those
planned in the south west will see incentives slashed by 72 per cent.

But I agree, yet again they have gone back on their word.

Yes but why penalise larger projects? They justify it by saying they want to focus on domestic installations
but this is a nonsense - the point of the exercise is to reduce carbon
emissions and any benefit to be had for installing PV on a residential
property is only multiplied by sticking it on a school or hospital or
business. It makes no sense whatsoever to slaughter FITs other than to
keep incumbent energy suppliers in the money (hence paying oodles of
Corp tax and employing 'green' apprentices and whatever other PR
exercise they can get out of it) and slowing down the increase of
consumer energy bills to pay for the renewable energy
investment/subsidies.

I agree, but at least they are not doing it ( yet) to home generators or those with <50 kW arrays!

Also it will only apply to new projects, so those who HAVE got in with bigger arrays are going to continue to get the FiT they signed up to.

Guess there might be a rush of big arrays going up in the next few weeks!

But why can't we have decent solar and pv on all gov't/public funded buildings and not pay bankers at BoS huge bonuses despite them being a buncjh of...well ....bankers.

As I travel around I see all that lovely S and SW facing roof space just waiting, no begging for an array of some sort!
