Guide / Scout camp blankets

Post by MrsC on 3rd October 2011, 5:20 pm

Bit of a strange questions, but is there anyone out there (in the UK) involved in Guides / Scouts that can recommend somewhere to buy a blanket that would work as a camp blanket to sew Guide badges on to?

I've recently discovered all my old guide badges and want to put them on a blanket ready for when LMC is older. I don't want to spend too much but figured that many guide/scout leaders have blankets and wondered if there's one place that they buy them all from.

Many thanks.

Mrs C

I'll check with the Junior Jadeds, but I think they are using IKEA fleecy blankets - cheap and cheerful

Super - hadn't thought of Ikea. Thank you.

I've consulted Mrs C-H and she used the scouting association website. Having been to a few of these cub camps, rather large camp fires are often involved, and so it is quite important that you get one made of natural fibres, not synthetic which are too flammable Shocked We could not find a wholly natural fibre blanket elsewhere.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning it, but either time has flown or you might just be getting a little ahead of yourself Question

I got the impression that MrsC wasnt going to go camping with it - just sew her old badges to it?

My brother used to have his badges sown to a sleeping bag. He had it for years and years - it used to be opened out and used as a sort of blanket.

Forgot to say - my nephew had an impressive collection of badges he was sowing onto a fleece blanket last time I saw him. I was a bit less impressed when I discovered that you can now buy old badges at International scout events, Cheating if you ask me.....
