How to cook red cabbage

default How to cook red cabbage

Post by polgara on 19th May 2013, 9:32 pm

I don`t eat much veg, but I do try, things like cabbage, sprouts cauli etc make me feel ill. For people with young children, this is because I was forced to eat it when younger, so be warned.

So any ideas to make red cabbage taste not like cabbage?

There are quite a few ways with red cabbage that are quite unlike anything you might do with regular cabbage. I'm thinking of the sort of thing that usually accompanies game. Here it is often cooked with fruit (apple, orange), maybe wine and spices. Looking at my copy of Julia Drysdale's Classic game cookery, there are a number of recipes - Red cabbage with apples and onions, Red cabbage with orange, Dutch red cabbage (padded out with rice), Red cabbage with wine and chestnuts. You get the idea. I could post a recipe or two when I get a moment later, if you can't find something of that ilk using Google.
