Sloe Gin
I've just bottled some of our sloe gin. The sloes were exceptional this year; on our walk along the Greensand ridge they were everywhere in abundance. I've never made it before, and can't say that I rightly know what I'm doing, but it seems to drink OK (You always need to taste these things to be sure !)
I just 1/4 - 1/3 filled a bottle with (pricked) sloes, added about the same depth of sugar, then poured on the gin. Any more sophisticated recipes ?

Re: Sloe Gin
Pretty sure that's what I used to do, CH. It's been a long time since I made it. It used to be an annual ritual, but I find as I've got older, alcohol just doesn't agree with me so I just don't drink it anymore. I have some bottles of sloe gin in the garage that I made in the early 90s!

Re: Sloe Gin
Sloes are non existent round here this year, the blossom was caught by the freezing winds in the spring. I've made sloe gin a few times, I seem to remember putting almonds in. I'm like you FB, don't do alcohol but my sloe gin in the cupboard isn't as vintage as yours, probably the turn of the millennium.

We have some damson vodka in the larder, made a couple of years ago by DD1 (similar method to the sloe gin.) She decided she didn't like it, but it's still there. I hate seeing things go to waste....!!!!

Re: Sloe Gin
Need to do a bottling run for Christmas this weekend. A few little bottles of sloe gin - not so many sloes this year - and a gallon of cyser ready to sustain us through the cold night if we do the Sutton Hoo craft fair again !
