Hi all in this little cold snap we have had or going to have could you please let me
know how many eggs your chooks are laying at the moment.???
Yes I know it's winter and they will go off the lay; but just for a mater of interest may
I please ask??

Well I'll start out of 17 chooks we are getting between 6-8 eggs each day.
We are lucky enough to have some of the teachers at our DS school by some but we still
have around well lets put it this way we have loads,

I have ( thinks) 12 hens laying at the moment and am getting 9 - 10 eggs per day from them.....

Some days I get 12....

I sell them to teachers, and passing trade on the road..I have a sign up at our gateway.

I found the snow made them all lay better, due to the extra light reflected around I guess....!

only 1 or 2 a day from 5 hens. Suspect a couple have ceased to lay altogether but can't single out which at the mo, what with weather. Don't think we have ever had a surplus even when we were getting 5 a day.

I've not had any eggs since Thursday! I've got 6 hens and since about the end of October have had 2 or maybe 3 eggs 3 or 4 times a week. I have had enough up til now to sell half a dozen a week to my chum at work but she won't be getting any this week as what I get I need for baking at weekend.

We had quite a drought in production in the late autumn, between having 5 surplus roosters and the moult, laying dropped off to nothing.

Once I managed to rehome the boys and move the girls into their winter (greenhouse) home, production has picked up nicely to 3 or 4 a day, not the dozen or so we were used to, but its better than last winter.

Some of mine were pol in Sept, but a fair few are several years old now...

Wish I could work out a way to share some of my eggs around to you all, but don't think the post is a good idea... cook
