Ooops.
A few weeks ago I decided to try out am experiment using batches of meadowseet and linden blossom as the basis for a 'fizz' type frink similar to elderflower champagne. Luath had already kindly supplied an excellent and very easy to follow elderflower recipe, so I simply changed the principle ingredient, figuring that anything with a lot of pollen-laden flowers should work in a similar way.
So I made up my two batches, bottled them securely in some grolsch bottles and left them to mature for a bit. This evening one exploded in spectacular fashion all over the kitchen. It was like a bomb going off!
So the theory held, even if the bottle didn't....
The rest of the batches have been tentatively removed to the garden and placed in a large tub full of water with a lid on.
Blimey.

Re: Ooops.
I'd popped another bucket over the top of them fortunately, so most of the liquid stayed put, but there were tiny shards of glass everywhere. Scared the heck out of me and I'm now quite wussy about opening the bottles indoors. I don't like to think what kind of damage they could do.
Re: Ooops.
We had a home-brewed ginger beer explosion in our first (rented) house. Luckily the bottles were in a cupboard which contained the mess, but what a mess it was!!

My Gran once had a bottle of Strawberry wine explode in her kitchen. The whole bungalow smelt very sweet for a long time afterwards!

I remember when I was a child and my dad worked nights - my mum and I were woken by loud bangs like gunshots - we searched the house and found nothing - next morning my dad opened his wardrobe when he came home from work to find elderberry wine all over the place -

Re: Ooops.
This year our elderflower champagne was a little too active. One blew up its grolsch bottle so I surrounded it with barricades which contained the second explosion. I then sent in Wood Troll in chain saw protection gear to defuse the rest. He covered them with hessian sack and slowly released the tops.
The explosion had blasted a hole through the plastic bucket the bottles where in.
