What are you harvesting today?

Zoe says I'm still picking the lambs lettuce I seeded in the autumn. It is the rounded leaf type and although it did stop growing in the long cold winter it didn't die of degrade and in the rain is sending up new bunches of leaves. Still very good eating.

The kale I stripped off all the damaged leaves and its has re-sprouted excellent fresh small green leaves...great for "deep fried seaweed" and all other things.

Winter spinach seeded in autumn again is re-growing and giving us a very much appreciated crop.

Leeks have held up and are being consumer rapidly.

The chicory Rouge de Trevise suffered due to the cold but 2 plants are still producing enough to pick a few leaves as variety.

Because of the 'proper winter', my spring cabbage has performed as it should this year; no bolting, no slugs (yet) - it's looking good! It's hearting up - We're eating thinnings at the moment (or what top notch supermarkets would probably call 'baby greens' and charge a lot for!)

We are eating leeks, parsnips and spinach from outside

kale, sprout greens and psb from in the PT and also various salad leaves
and pea tops...

Have onions that I pulled yesterday, I need the pots
Cabbage that was cut in the early winter & aytumn & slashed is now growing spring greens for OH
Blown sprouts & sprout tops likewise for OH
Salad leaves
A beetroot that survived, boy was that nice.
Parsley that has survived

Oh dear, I feel a bit inferior now... Only parsnips left in the ground to harvest. Just finished the stored celeriac, down to the last few potatoes and beetroot, and worst of all, the last garlic bulb Sad

Soon have fresh salad leaves though. I always put some bull's blood beets, rocket and lettuce in seed trays to make baby leaves - propagator is on, so may as well fill it !

Personally I think anyone who has managed to salvage anything this winter is doing well

I didn't include stuff from the outside clamp or the store shed......

From there still have onions, garlic, shallots, spuds, carrots, jerusalem artichokes and apples

celeriac was lovely but small this year..so didn't store well...so we ate it all up in the winter

But yes last year was a bit of a disaster for stuff in general

For the last two years I've grown celeriac Prinz. Sown under glass in early April in 2" modules, a few seed to each module then thinned to one strong seedling. Grown on at the wetter end of the lotty. I pull off some of the lower straggly leaves as they grow. The final size wasn't quite so big as supermarket ones, but ranged from a bit bigger than a tennis ball, to pretty close to shop bought size.

I have to lift and store them or they seem to go black after frost. And once frosted, the Muntjak eat them (though interestingly, not before).

I've never grown celeriac before - I have just sown some seeds of Tellus, from the Garden Organic heritage seed library (the result of a seed swap at work)

Yes...looking forward to our first asparagus. The plants are now 2 years old and we will allow ourselves a few spears.....C-H you've reminded me to check how they are getting on!

We started harvesting the watercress in the stream (good eating!) and first radishes in the green house. Its good to be eating this years food.. :bounce:

Bacon. Huge gurt sides of the stuff that has been undergoing an experimental long-smoking I got from an old Italian Salumier's memoirs. I just hope my Italin is not so poor i have misjudged the smoking time massively.

We are somewhat constrained for space, so my MkIII smoker is in the vegetable garden, beside the senior rosemary bush and the apple tree.

We did get some aspargus from our new bed and it was excellent. We intend to expand the number of plant this autumn.

We are stiil eating winter leeks but they are starting to flower. Spinach is still producing well.

We are now eating the new red salad bowl leaves and water cress which is refreshing.

The protected butt of potatoes are just starting to flower!

The only produce I have left is spinachy/chardy stuff, now it's growing like mad.
Still, I didn't have many different vegetables to start with, hope to do better this year....except that today we have semi-arctic weather (high of 8 degrees, and massive rain - yes, south of France!) and I could kick myself for having planted out the tomatoes, and 3 courgette plants. How can they survive?

rocket and all sorts of caca salad (mmm sounds lovely) on a daily basis. Big bowl of salad from the polytunnel every day at the moment and from now until autumn. Hurrah!

Some very peppery choy sum...very hot indeed!

Some baby carrots from inside the PT, and more psb and "proper " Kale leaves.

well rosemary and bay we harvest year round. Chives are up, and fennel.

I love fresh herbs.

Snoopka we have the same weather..my I'll risk one courgette is under two stacked together palstic bell and the 5 tomatoes are under a plastic cloche. I've left them like that all day. I should end soon...hopefully. The other 65 tomatoes and 4 courgettes go out mid May.

Good luck to you Zoe, your courgette and tomatoes should be OK under plastic, surely. I have no cloche or bell or anything that could be used for protection, I was caught by surprise as it had got so nice, so we will see. I have been here 8 years, and still haven't learnt!!!!
