A Sailors Poem

Post by polgara on 26th July 2010, 11:07 am

This is a poem I have been looking for for over 12months. I was going to wait until November but changed my mind.

It was written by a very young sailor during the Gulf War,

HOW MUCH

Bobbing around on the edge of despair
On the threshold of unknown territory
Defending the faceless from the faceless
For freedom there can be no fee.

The buldog breed they call us
The pride of the sea
Then they sell off and scrap the fleet
For pride there is no fee.

The sailor alone with his feelings
A place he doesn`t want to be
Cast adrift from his loved ones
For love there is no fee.

I know that it is not perfect & has lots ofthings that are not right, but this is how a young lad felt as he was being put into difficult situations. After all this time it still makes me cry.

Yes. Thank you.

I keep telling people, "I don't want them off over there fighting so rich people can get richer. I want them home. We need them here."

I hate war.
