What are you making for Christmas?
Apparently there are just 41 sleeps til Christmas :affraid:
I have many plans to make things but have yet to get started But I WILL start this week!
For my big sis I shall be making a felted bag, not sure on the final design, I'm a bit of a 'free' felter....I know her favourite colours so I may just see what my hands feel like felting on the day :suspect:
I want to crochet some pan holders (oven glove type things) in the green & cream of her kitchen and I want to have a go at felting some teacosies too.
Dad wants a hat felting so lord only knows what he'll end up with
What are you making and who for?

Just knitting two shawls for Yule gifts and that is all I have time for this year - the nephlings and niecelets are getting books and Itunes vouchers

Re: What are you making for Christmas?
I've been knitting hats for what seems like forever now - some to kit offspring out for winter, others as Christmas gifts for littluns in the family. I am also making a throw for middle daughter but I've run into a few problems (my own stupidity for choosing one weight material for the front and a warm layer for the back . . .) Middle daughter has also asked me to paint her an elephant's head in shadows and highlights. This is proving a challenge as I am primarily best at copying something, so I need to find a suitable illustration to copy.

41 sleeps! Yikes!
Last year I was so disorganised and promised myself that I would do better this year. It's not looking so promising though!

I tend to fall back on home made jams chutneys and alcohol in pretty hampers....
Plus truffles and cakes and biscuits
and for the favoured few friends, home made soap, lotions and potions and Damson Vodka.....
I try to make a few extra jars or small ( 25 cl wine) bottles of stuff throughout the year, so I always have a small "something" to hand..
Not particularly organised..but if I do it this way I *know* I have things ready...otherwise I am running around like a headless chook about now...

Yikes - it'll now be less than 41 and I'm no more organised yet...

I have made a huge ham (well huge-ish - 16lbs), and am starting on a second one so I can give the first one to my Mum. The first was just cured normally, and smoked. The new one will be cured in cider with molasses.
Re: What are you making for Christmas?
I have been knitting all year ready for Christmas, mind you I usually stop in the summer.
Today though I bought 2 calenders in the cheapy shop, trimmed up the picctures on them, which were very fairy like, laminated them, the result several place mats. Look quite good if I do say so myself. Idea came from someone else on another thread.

Re: What are you making for Christmas?
I love to knit, and my girls always appreciate gloves, mitts, scarves or hats etc, so will be making one of the above for each of them. Am also knitting for a new GS or GD due in May, and have nearly finished a jumper for 20 month old DGD. So am very happy to click the needles. Disappointingly certain members of the family would be totally ungrateful if I gave them something handmade. I begrudge having to buy stuff I'd otherwise steer clear of. However, they're hubbies side of the family and I wouldn't dare refuse to get anything at all.
Polgara that sounds like a really good idea.
This past week I also made lots of decorations for a surprise 70th Birthday party for a lady where I work as a volunteer.

Re: What are you making for Christmas?
Thanks Dippy. Have tried one out & it is fine for plates & cups. Wouldn`t put anything really hot on it though. As I bought calenders for the piccys I also ended up with some coaster size ones as well

You must be a mind reader, as I was going to ask how do I make.........
We're going down to my brother & sister in law's home in Devon for Christmas this year and I thought it might be nice to take them something decorative as a little thank you for having us to stay. We'll be mucking in with all the preparations and cooking etc too, but DD1 is the fantastic cook not me and I should like to take something.

Re: What are you making for Christmas?
I'm doing little quilted wallhangings for people (we don't do Christmas presents - bah humbug - but there are a few that still get a wee homemade thing). They are about A4 size and are a cross between patchwork, applique, embroidery and quilting. I started them weeks ago and am not getting on very fast - need to find some enthusiasm again .

Have finished 3 shrugs now. 3 pairs of fingerless mittens/wrist warmers.
Intend to make some sweets this week & put in the freezer. Should be fun.
