Re: What are you reading now?
DS sent me an Amazon voucher for mothers day. I rang him to say thank you, and said that I had ordered a murder with it. He sounded puzzled so I explained that I had sent off for 'Pearls before swine' by Dorothy Allingham. He sounded relieved, and said that he had thought that Amazon were now arranging contract killings!!

That's a bargain Pol. I read the end of Goodbye to the East End in Waterstones yesterday.

Am reading Far out Isn't Far Enough by Tomi Ungerer - Adrian, you would enjoy this big time.
Re: What are you reading now?
I just got the new Trudi Canavan paperback book, 'The Rogue', second, latest, book in the 'Traitor Spy Trilogy'. Is why I haven't been on for a while.

Re: What are you reading now?
'Agatha Raisin and the murderous marriage'. Good for the end of term - a straightforward bit of light escapism. Will get onto something more existential next week. (or not..)

Have just started 'I know why the caged bird sings' by Maya Angelou. What an amazing writer! It's a very traumatic story in places (I think I've just read the most traumatic bit) - she is such a good writer that it makes it even more upsetting and vivid, and you really care about what happens.

Re: What are you reading now?
Oh that is one of my favourite books, in fact I have a signed copy, I queued up like a giddy fanboy one lunchtime in Leeds Waterstones to meet her and get her to sign my dog eared copy
Re: What are you reading now?
It must have meant a lot to her that your copy was dog-eared: better than a neat unread book.
Mr D was saying what a good speaker she is, how you could listen to her for hours. I don't think I've ever heard her but would like to.

Reading books by VINCE FLYNN & LEE CHILDS at the moment. Good exciting books but not quite so heavy as Clancy & Cussler.

Re: What are you reading now?
Well I have done a lot of reading over the last few weeks. Too many to mention really.
Just finished Sky Dragons by the McCaffreys. A really different book for them but I really enjoyed it.
I just hope Todd finishes the the last book that his Mother had started.

Re: What are you reading now?
Due to lack of new books at the moment, I have returned to the Darkover Books, not all of them, but the newer ones.

Re: What are you reading now?
Anyone come across the writer Christopher Fowler before? He writes thrillers about a couple of elderly detectives called Bryant and May, which are funny and gripping. He has also writtten a book about his childhood memories, called 'Paperboy'. He was brought up in South East London in the 50s and 60s, so it's a trip down memory lane for me, but he is a funny and also poignant writer - would recommend him.

Re: What are you reading now?
The Book People were doing a special offer on three of the novels for a knock-down price. Since I discovered them I've been ordering them to have in stock for winter evenings in front of the log burner!

Re: What are you reading now?
Have recently discovered Diana Norman (late wife of Barry) who also wrote as Ariana Franklin. Am devouring her books as fast as I can lay my hands on them. Historical with a a smidge of romance, mystery, intrigue, politics... every time you think you have a handle on what genre the plot falls into it takes another twist. Really good stuff.
Re: What are you reading now?
Haven't come across her. Is there one novel you would recommend to start with?

Re: What are you reading now?
They are not all in print. WHatever you can get hold of. I started the DN ones with 'A catch of consequence' which is the first of a loose trilogy. The AF ones are slightly different and perhaps a little more 'populist' - in the best sense of teh word. I like both styles very much.
