Vegetable crisps
Well, I would really like to make some vegetable crisps. Parsnip, carrot beetroot etc, but I really do not want to fry them, so can anyone tell me the best way to go about it please.

Re: Vegetable crisps
I've made crisps in the microwave before, using one of those slotted crisp maker thingies - a round plastic circle with slots all the way round. You then stand the slices of potato in the slots - cook for a few mins and Voila! home made crisps. I guess you could use beetroot etc.
What about oven baking them? If you use a 'Y' peeler you can slice veg really thinly and shouldn't take long in a hottish oven. Spread them on a baking tray and turn until crisp I guess!
I'm a sort of trial and error girl!

Re: Vegetable crisps
We make veg crisps in the dehydrator - courgette are Leo's absolute fave - he will eat them all day long.
Sweet potato, parsnip, allsorts. Just slice very thin - about 2-3mm and leave until they reach desired level of crispiness. uses much less elec than in oven. And you get a lot of crisps from each courge etc, all without a single drop of oil so v. healthy as well.
We store them in air-tight jars. They do lose a little bit of crispiness over time, but can just be popped back in for half an hour to crisp back up again.
That's if they last that long which is rare.

Re: Vegetable crisps
Akuma thanks for that & the link, I could use a very little oil, that would not not be too bad.
Don`t have a dehydrator Billy, but I could do them in the oven, thanks for that . I see a fun afternoon when OH is at footy on Saturday.
PS thanks for the cooky smilies.

Re: Vegetable crisps
If using the oven, use the lowest possible heat setting, and leave the door cracked open.
Re: Vegetable crisps
Thanks for that Billy. That is what I do when I dry the garlic etc. Works a treat as I have an eco temp on the cooker.

Re: Vegetable crisps
Well made some parsnip. carrot & potato crisps. Used a very small amount of oil & sliced thinly. Did not watch them quite closely enough so some over cooked, but they were not too bad & some turned out OK. Intend to try some without oil next time & if I can get one of those crisp makers I shall try that as well.

Re: Vegetable crisps
Well got one of the microwave crispers. Works fine for potatoes, which are really good, anything else seems to overheat the microwave, so I guess it is back to the oven method.
