Tea stain in fabric
Hi all
Any tips for getting an old tea stain out of fabric?
Basically was at a friend's house. One of LMC's muslins fell off chair into mug of tea. Didn't notice for a while. In fact until just before I left. Muslin was then stuffed in bag and forgotten about for a week! It's been through the washing machine twice with stain remover on it and is still there.
Obviously it being a muslin it's not the end of the world, but I'd quite like it to be clean looking again, especially since spreading said muslin out on my shoulder when out and about doesn't look great as it just looks like I can't be bothered to wash it.
Thanks
Mrs C

I must admit that I use a weak solution of bleach if the tea stain is on white fabric - if that doesn't remove it I make the solution a bit stronger.

Annoyingly the muslin is actually a blue one (cheaper than white where I got it from!) I'm wondering if a soak in something might work, I'm just not sure what that something is!

Soak in warm biodegradable detergent & water, dab with meths...
or
Sponge with glycerine, leave 3 -4 hours, wash with pure soap & cold water

Found it in a charity shop!!!
Stretch material over a small basin, dampen with water, sprinkle with borax, pour boiling water through. Leave to soak in the solution, the rinse & launder...

Can you still buy borax? I seem to recall reading it had been banned or something? Also when you say "biodegradable" detergent is that something new I've not heard of, or do you mean biological???

Don't know about borax, but I have just checked the book & it does say "biodegradable..."
I think I would try the glycerene one...
Perhaps one of our lovely cousins from south of the equator could translate into English for us ...

Re: Tea stain in fabric
in a worst case scenario, submerge the rest of the muslin in tea as well and have a brown muslin.
Re: Tea stain in fabric
You could tie dye it and start a new trend....
