Hello from DC (sort of) Empty Hello from DC (sort of)

Post by paxagraria 14th March 2011, 9:24 pm

Hello!

My name is Anna and I'm on the brink of 31 years old. I was born and raised in Seattle, and have lived in the metro DC region for the past seven years, but am in Europe for four months wwoofing to explore a more natural, organic, homemade life closer to the earth. (I'm a total failure as an administrative assistant and got fed up with being miserable all the time -- not that there is anything wrong with AA work, I am just terrible at it -- so here I am.) I found this forum on twitter and have been meaning to join up and poke around, and finally did so today. Smile

Am pleased to be here and am looking forward to learning from everyone.

Anna

Hi Dandelion! Thank you for welcoming me! Smile I'm in France in les Cévennes (which is a national park), if anyone knows where that it. Lozère region. I'm with a super-awesome Dutch family right now. They grow shitake, keep a small herd of clun forest sheep, keep some chickens (sort of goes without saying, but I'll say it), and raise a variety of small red fruits. I'm going south in April to another farm near Carcassonne.

Haha. Well, wwoofing is interesting. You meet a certain type of person and have to be a certain type of person to want to host strangers at your home all the time. I've heard some great things and some horror stories. I'm really trying to branch out to other wwoofers to get to know more who are doing it/have done it to hear about their experiences. So far, it's been pretty good for me. My first host I didn't much like, but his farm was great. He boarded horses in the Alsace region. These hosts I'm with now have the whole package and I'd like them to adopt me.

hey there. If you want to come and wwoof on the Isle of Avalon, let me know, we could sure do with the help and it would make teh decision to take on those extra 8 acres much easier. And you would be in the most spiritual place in all of Europe, apparently: burial place of King Arthur, the Holy Thorn etc...
okay enough hard sell. I guess I'll go feed the pigs myself.

Welcome to the forum.

Or you could come and wwoof in Herefordshire , home of apples, cider and beef cattle...and help coppice trees and wrangle chickens and plant veg?

Seriously, what you are doing has me green with envy - it is something I have considered doing but never done...

I was so giving you the benefit of the doubt a.) because i am nice and I like you, and b.) because it is not good to spat in front of new arrivals, but no, you are right, it really isn't up for debate.
But I will remain charitable and say Herefordshire cider is a good second best. All that Irish stuff made from apples they buy in from Somerset suffers from travel and is not in contention really.

Not spatting Very Happy Billy dear, as I like you, also. Hello from DC (sort of) 931594

But am stating the blindingly obvious fact that Herefordshire apples and cider are infinately superior to any Somerset stuff.

Just a fact, no offence intended. Hello from DC (sort of) 523221

Anyway, back on topic...Anna, if you are in lovely Herefordshire, home of the best cider and apples etc in the Universe Very Happy Very Happy ....just shout.....
