A lovely new local shop opened up recently and I was entranced by the fabrics she had. Then I found out she did sewing courses, so I went on a beginners' one and made needle case, but it taught me how to thread up the sewing machine, and how to (try) and sew straight. Then I made some bunting, which decorated my tent in the summer. Another class and I made a vintage style pinny. A few weeks ago she started up a Saturday morning workshop where we can take our own projects to do with the help of a Textiles teacher and a couple of girls who are doing textiles at school. I've really got into it after years of never ever being inclined to sew anything. The first week I made some more bunting, second and third weeks I made a bag. A class last Saturday afternoon to make a skirt resulted in something I can actually wear that looks great. Today I started on a big adventure and am attempting to make a 50's style dress Shocked Hopefully the links will work and you can see my pics

That sounds brilliant AJB. The only class I've done like that was a silk painting one quite a few years ago - it's amazing how much more you learn from having a person there rather than trying to follow instructions in a book.

I couldn't see the first photo - link took me to a page that told me the content was unavailable. Can see the second though, and although it's in pieces, I can see what it is going to be!

It's funny, there must be something in the air at the moment, as I've just started to get interested in making my own clothes again. Always used to, and for the boys too, when they were young. It's good to have the skills, as it puts so much stuff within reach - if not making from scratch, then altering charity shop items to fit, or to be something more interesting.

Have fun!
