Tools for self reliance usually have a stall at the Bodger's ball, and this year was no exception.   I parted with a bit of my cash for an unusual old plane iron (I plan to make the rest of the plane to suit!), and a small anvil.

It strikes me as a nice idea, and very much our type of thing.   Not all the donations they receive are the sort of tools needed in the countries they work in, so their stall is a great source for second hand tools, and the money goes to a good cause.  Their tools are usually quite good quality, and sympathetically cleaned up.

Which brings me round to the second purpose of posting this here - there are some good guides to tool cleaning and restoration, and repair of old Singer sewing machines on their site:

Tools for Self Reliance usually have a stall at the Big Apple days in Herefordshire, and we also have bought a few things we like. It's a good place to pick up well-worn hand tools for the garden, which are very comfortable to use. Mr D picked up some sort of a hedging or pruning tool. Known as The Slasher, it lives in the corner of our bedroom, just in case of intruders!!
