The Secrets of Your Food - Chillies !
I spotted some BBC pseudo-news this morning promoting this series with James Wong and Micheal Mosley. The upcoming episode is about how chillies might be good for your health. I'm all ears

Maybe it's because your mouth is in such pain, you forget about the pain in your foot.......

Re: The Secrets of Your Food - Chillies !
The capsaicin in the chillies stimulates the pain receptors in your mouth creating the burning sensation. If you ignore it and carry on eating regardless, your body releases endorphins, a natural painkiller.
As they commented on the programme, this can eventually lead to a kind of euphoria. Personally I think it is improved by just the right amount of alcohol. Half a bottle of Rioja and a pizza topped with Fatali chillies worked quite nicely this evening
