Darning Socks Empty Darning Socks

Please could some one show me how to Darn my wool socks as they have started to get holes in the heels.
This being because my son's have found out where I've put the warm socks and taken them for them selves Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad So now I find that when I go to get them on they nearly have the heels out.
So any help would be most welcome.

The simplest way is to darn....start in the good area above the heal but to one side, pick up a bit across the sock before making a line down the hole to the good bit below the heal, pick up a little to move over a stitch and the make a line up over the hole parallel to the first line. Continue until the hole is covered with up and down lines. Then move over to the side of the hole and do the same but this time weave in and out of the lines already made. Make it close. Some would do it a double weave to give enough cover.

My Nan used to re-knit large holes...
