Quail at last and eggs too!
Having only wanted quail for over 25 years, its nice to finally get them.
And the eggs aint bad either!
No one told me that coturnix quail are so funny! They come running when they see me just like chickens do, in fact, closing the door the other day I felt resistance and instead of just pushing it closed like I usually do I looked down. Good thing I did, had one of the roosters head caught he was snatching bits dropped on the ground and didnt pull back fast enough
I have redesigned the inside of their cage and am going to do it again next week. Am trying for lots of greenery but am contending with a cockatiel and four budgies. They do love to chew things up, they do!
Anyway, I can REALLY recommend quail as a hobby, they are funny, cheap to keep and lay an egg a day and are themselves right tasty. They are also the easiest to clean bird I have ever done! Oh, they also go from egg to plate in 8 to 12 weeks.
Not bad, not bad at all!

Re: Quail at last and eggs too!
My first hatch will be ready to eat next week.
WOW they are fast!
And had to cull one this weekend so floured and fried it with some chicken.
Yeh, no downside to quail

Have found a downside to quail
You want more and more and more and more and.........................
Got rid of all my roos to prepair for buying some high quality eggs - no use their eating their heads off if I dont need fertile eggs - but think I have a stealth rooster so have set a batch of eggs to just check.
I think my hatchaholism is showing again
