Cornbread
I've tried a recipe for cornbread this morning, something I've been meaning to try for ages. I just picked a random recipe after a Google
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/3904/corn-bread.aspx
but I think it's too "cakey" and maybe it would have been better as muffins.
I really wanted something denser, more bread-like to go with soup. Does anyone have a tried and trusted recipe?

Re: Cornbread
I'd say the recipe is fine, but you can make it a bit denser by adding a bit of cheese and jalepenos, and cut back on the baking powder. Cornbread is always going to be a bit cake-like due to its consistency, it doesn't really cook up "breadish".
I always cook mine in cast iron as well, lightly greased with butter (although bacon fat is traditional). Gives it a nice crust.
