Re: whats on the menu
Years ago, just after rationing finished, our butcher used to make what he called steaklets. They were just minced beef with seasoning in them but we did used to like them.
I tried to make some for lunch today & they were quite nice. Just like burgers but without the onion & spice. Had chips & garlicetype mushrooms with a sour cream & chive dip. Definately going to try them again

Christmas pudding! Discovered a cache of them this afternoon. Yum. Going to get the kids to bed, curl up on sofa with a pot of tea and a film and a big Christmas pudding with clotted cream.
Re: whats on the menu
Hope you enjoyed the pud Billy.

Re: whats on the menu
Mmmm Dandelion, that sounds delish. Do you have a recipe or is it a made up one?
I made mushroom & ale pies yesterday, ate one for my tea with new potatoes and green beans (the last of my frozen home grown beans). The other 2 pies are in the freezer ready for another time.
I've got some wild garlic growing in the garden so I'm going to pick some of that to go with the basil I bought today (a reduced pot from Tesco) and make some pesto to go with pasta for lunch. Will probably add some olives to that as well

Re: whats on the menu
It was a recipe in the Tesco magazine, and was a useful way to use up half a pot of creme fraiche. The tart bit was really fun to make - I'll post the recipe tonight.

Roast pork, mashed spuds, steamed carrots and brocoli with the best gravy EVER!
Does anyone know why THIS thread only ever tells me twice about new posts and then stops? Tis most annoying!

Re: whats on the menu
Have just made a lemon and lime syllabub for tonight, and a summer pudding for Easter Sunday (which has become a bit of a ritual because everyone likes it. It also uses up all the soft fruit I saved from last year and leaves some space in the freezer!)

Re: whats on the menu
We had salmon stir-fry, but prepping the veg, found I had no fresh chilli. Have used up all the chopped, frozen chilli, so decided to try some that I had experimentally dried in the oven last autumn (had my doubts as I thought I might have cooked them, rather than dried them). Reconstituted in a little boiling water until rehydrated (just a few minutes), then chopped up and added to the stir-fry. Superb! Kept their heat and flavour much better than the frozen chillies.
I've since bought a dehydrator, so this year they should get properly dried.

A bolognaise today, but a careful one as I have been quite ill the last few days and am just getting back to normal. If I did not HAVE to eat, I would not , but thats the way it goes.
Baked pots for tea with a minute amount of salad.

Re: whats on the menu
Change of dinner plans. With hubby so sick he wanted the Japanese onion soup that comes as a starter at a Japanese steak house so I went and got him some..............
And about 10 different Sushi Rolls for the rest of us.
Finally the kids had all the Sushi they wanted and it only put a little hole in the birthday budget so Darling Daughter is thrilled with her late birthday dinner and hubby is feeling a little bit better.
And best of all, I didnt have to cook it
