Forum Help?

Staff implies a business to me and Team is a bit exclusive.

I didn't say another place, I said "elsewhere". Similar, but different...
However, that is a valid point, so ditch mod.
I may just go with Team or Staff or a synonym thereof and see how that goes for a while, maybe integrate the wee folk into the forum ranking system..
Staff is good.

Good points there Billy.

"Help" is self descriptive.

I'm being awkward again.. I love crew...then Badger could shout "Yahoooy me maties!!!!" occasionally, whilst swinging from the rafters, whilst waving his cutlass about the place... and... and.. we could call him Skipper... Very Happy

I don't like housekeeper as I don't have a grey haired bun, clumpy brogues, a moustache and bad knees.. yet.... Shocked I think it sounds really prim.. Embarassed

Aye, and what a motley crew they be.

Oh, wait, is that Motley Crue from the '80's??? Shocked

Oh, and I do like cadre. But let's not forget such good ones as posse, deputy and, yes, Regulators.

Maybe in keeping with the allotment/produce theme, herdsman, or borough taster. Perhaps cleaner, scrubber (a little to censored maybe) or some way to refer to pruning or dead heading.

Ok

Looking at the poll, Crew seems to be the outright favourite.

My next question is this. If you saw a forum member with the word Crew under their Avatar, would you assume that this is a person to go to for help etc..?

No.. but I assumed everyone would be "crew members" with you as the "captain" and mods as "captains mate" or something along those lines...

You will all have noticed (I hope) that I have changed the ranks to traditional titles

this is a temporary fix while we thrash out what best suits this forum..

Don't think I would, actually...Forum Staff or Help yes, but somehow not Crew.

Aarghh long post disappeared again.

I think it needs to do what it says on the tin. On my computer the button I click for help says 'Help', not Magic Pixie dust or Ships' Locker or Medicine Chest or anything. Terms like that serve only to obfuscate.

I really do think that it needs to be a 'Does what it says on the tin' description. All these terms like elves, acolytes, first mate, etc do not tell you what you need to know: ie that this is a person you go to for help, they just obfuscate.
If you look at the top of your computer screen the Tools bar is marked 'Tools', the help page is marked 'Help'. That makes it clear where to go for help or to change tool settings. If they were marked "Cunning Gubbinsy stuff" or "Magic Pixie Dust" it would make your life more difficult.

Well I am starting to think that, even though I dislike the word immensely, it is the sensible option, that people expect to see Moderator etc and know that these are the people running the forum.

I will start sorting out neater rank badges, apologies if I seem to be all over the shop on this one, I am immensely conflicted.

If we keep it as "Mod" or Moderator at least new people will know who to go to
Just because other forums/fora have had problems doesn't mean to say the same thing will happen here. We are all well aware of what can happen so it's up to us not to let it.
Also less work for you, Badger, to keep changing things
