So, were the Smurfs actually Nazis?

They were a bit after my time. My Nazi indoctrination came from Disney and Enid Blyton.

yes - Enid wasn't too keen on foreigners or gypsies as I remember!!

We had a term of reading books by John Buchan at secondary school - luckily I went to a very left wing establishment to train after school, so that knocked me somewhere into the centre!!

So what would Gargamel and Azrael be, then? it annoys me a bit that they are always trying to destroy icons of my childhood and place meanings that aren't on these. Leave my childhood alone!

As for Enid Blyton... aaah the bliss of translated, slightly reworked versions of The Famous Five! I do believe that what she wrote was in large part the norm in her time, unfortunately... some concepts haven't ... shall we say... grown old gracefully? Just thinking how I sometimes cringe depending on what my sister's 90 y.o. mother-in-law utters in public. And she's open minded!

Don't know about the Nazi linky, but I do know there were no 'born' female Smurfs, at least among the original lot. Smurfette was a creation by Gargamel from bits he'd gotten from the other Smurfs, in an attempt to capture more Smurfs. She had dark hair too. Then the Smurfs learned of the ruse, and Smurfed the bad Smurfiness out of her, and she became good. And blonde. WTF? So, the original lot of Smurfs were all male, plus one trans genered Smurf, made out of bits from males.

From what I've heard, there wasn't even going to be a Smurfette, until network execs said with all males, people would think they're gay. This was no surprise to the creator, but to appease the PTB, he snuck in a post op tranny. Wow, go children's programming!!

And then, of course, you have the asexual reproduction where they cull the young from some Smurfy magic once a blue moon. And even the token female in that lot of rugrats was decidedly Tom-Boy-ish. And wonder why so many children's idea of what being an adult is so rife with misconception, sigh.... LOL

Hmmm, I am surprised anyone has the time to even contemplate tripe like this. I file under the same category as Fox News' war on Sesame Street for its gay brainwashing agenda.
