One of the things that attracted me to internet discussion fora was the fact that on one of the first ones I joined, I very quickly got into a blazing row with another poster. Some of you might even have been there.
It was bloody good fun... at least I thought so. I am confident that the other part did also.
But that forum went dreadfully fluffy. Sad
And I can't seem to find a decent argument anywhere these days.

I'm not certain that we have ever had a good row on here HL, in fact in the three years that the forum has existed, I have had to do very little moderation either (with the exception of dealing with spam).

I'm sure that if this section were more active, we could attract some ragey types duel

No, I don't think we have. I think we are largely singing from the same page.

Heh, heh, I seem to recall a row or two with you on another forum about moderation... but a good row ought not to need any.

Yeah, that was the other place in another angsty time.

Have to admit, I do enjoy a good argument, but I seem to have mellowed since I became a pop

Gosh, you must have been really naughty to get banned from there

Are you still allowed to argue on GLF?

I can't get you a link to the discussion, but [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is a clue.

I've not been there in a long time... So long I'd forgotten what it was called.
What do you mean "still"? I thought "ever" more fitting. Wink

OK, now the ban has been lifted, I can give you [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], I think it is a members only area though.

If you are members, then I would appreciate some feedback off you as to whether I was actually out of order.
I suspect some people still have a chip on their shoulder after I criticised the Jimmy Saville Documentary...
BTW, did you catch that bit of gossip from that side of the pond? It seems he was a serious paedophile.

Yup, its bad - but its mainly being used as a vehicle to attack the BBC

I stopped paying attention when I heard "Leonard Rossiter had a wank while BBC staff tried to rape me"...

I stopped paying attention about ten minutes into the documentary. :?

But the subject came up on the forum, and I was led to believe that some of his victims kept going back to the show, which puzzled me somewhat.
I can understand that in many cases of child abuse, the abuser has a direct power over the victim, and they do have to keep going back, but I am baffled to Mr Saville could exert such a power from the remote towers of the BBC.
So I asked, and was told, most indignantly to go research it myself. :?

I have some sympathy for his victims, I was sexually abused by my fathers brother and I wasn't able to talk about it with my father until I was an adult, many many years after the fact. So I can understand the kids in the childrens home, in thrall and in fear of powerful adults - the ones on the show, I find that very odd - I did everything I could to avoid going to my uncles house.

Possibly I misunderstood, and the ones in the show only went once, but that was not the impression I got.

Well it proper kicked off on Downsizer the other day... and I wasn't even there: it ran to page seven before I'd even got a look in.
I think we've identified & put straight a few misunderstandings, but I don't know if they've taken it on board... it just all went quiet...

What are the traditional ones?
Sport, politics and religion?

OK, the football industry should be nationalised and run by the church...
