Signs of Spring - Page 2 Empty Re: Signs of Spring

To the immediate south of the house and so receiving extra sun reflected from the walls and where I have spread some wood ashes that darkened the snow (besides adding potash to our main "spring bulbs" area) we have bare ground and dafodils poking their noses up. Maybe 50 sq meters of bare ground (and >30 hectares still snow covered). OK, OK, the main part of the driveway is also clear of snow -- we call that "mud season", but not near as bad as many years. Had good luck with just the right amount of hard pack on the drive to keep if frozen until now when it's more consistently warm enough. Freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw-etc-etc can result in very deep mud!

erm...I've started spring cleaning. Due to the joys of a house with 75cm stone walls it is warmer outside then in. So there is this urge to open windows and let out all the winter "accumulations" and get moving all the furniture out and freshen up!

My pansies are going mad now as is the muscari, daffodils are managing to cope with the weather. Some self bulbing hyacinth are flowering look pretty. Some othe tulips are buding up now. Bluebells are making a big effort & I have loads of them in all sorts of places.

So things are looking good

Now, in a village not far from here the first swallow was seen this year exactly 365 days after the first one last year...

The golden orioles were here last week but the regression in the weather is not impressing anyone!
