Or is anyone else thinking about yields and wondering if 400 onions will be enough this year, or should I throw in another 2-300 just to be sure..?

The chance to think in those numbers would be good. However I suspect you can never have too many onions. Did you know they were worth a small fortune during WW2?

I suspect the answer is like the freezer answer, you can always use more.

lol!

I am just thinking the same, here...we (well CM) has just planted 200, but there are some left over and they may as well go in as well...

An also have got more shallots to go it, I have found the do well and harvest later on in the autumn if the weather is ok....

I grew shallots for the first time last year, but found them a bit maddening to peel, especially when doing a 'slam it in the pot as quickly as possible because I've spent the afternoon in the garden' recipe.

Been seriously looking at goats today thanks to the rain - still not sure I have enough onions though, think I will double up on what I have, just to be sure, its not like we ever have enough onions in our house..

You can never have too many onions - every year I say I am going to make onion marmalade and I never have enough. Heads off to garden to plant another row ...........
