I don't mean to be partisan or judgemental, but...
I have Japanese friends, the grandfather of one being a survivor of Nagasaki. I've been to both Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The peace park at Hiroshima is a place I wish all the warmongers of the world could be made to visit; the monuments to ordinary people - factory workers, high school children - who lost their lives is one of the most profoundly sad things I have encountered.
