I copied this recipe from a book ages ago but made it for the first time today. I'll give the quantities in the recipe but I halved it today and still got 20biscuits out of it. I found it a bit sweet and not peppery enough (I wanted a bit of a kick) so next time I'll cut out a little bit of sugar and add a bit more pepper. But they were still lovely

250g/9oz unsalted butter
225g/8oz caster sugar
55mls/2fl oz double cream (I used sour cream as that's what I had in the fridge)
1tblsp hot water
1tsp bicarb
1tsp baking powder
6 cardamom pods
500g/1lb 2oz plain flower
1tsp ground black pepper
1tsp ground cinnamon

Cream butter and sugar then beat in cream
In a bowl mix hot water with bicarb and add to butter & suger
Split cardamom pods, scrape out seeds and grind
Sift flour, spices & baking powder into mixture and knead to form a dough
Roll dough into a fat sausage and wrap in cling film, chill in fridge for 1 hour
Pre-heat oven to gas 5 (190C/375F) and grease baking sheets
Unwrap dough and cut into slices, place on baking tray and bake for 6-8 minutes, cool on wire rack
