Re: Knitting makes friends
Fantastic hat Jelly! :bigclap:
Yikes seils - how many pairs of knitted socks do you have? I've only ever made three. The first were something of a disaster with both being completely different lengths and the toe on one being 90 degrees out from where it should be (so it goes flat as if my toes are in a line pointing downwards rather than across!) They get worn in bed, but that's all. Love my other two pairs though. Looking forward to seeing a photo of them all lined up seils.

Re: Knitting makes friends
Feeling really chuffed. I ordered some "Kaffe Fasset" Regia sock wool online on Wednesday night. Cheaper than John Lewis even with p&p and it was delivered yesterday morning.
Lovely colours

I bought some from Kemps online a couple of weeks back for socks for Mr Luath. Great quality and colours in the range, knits up nicely.

Re: Knitting makes friends
I do rather like knitting socks. I think it's the fact that there's no real making up to do at the end that makes them particularly attractive for me. Also the practicalness of them.

Yes, not having to do lots of sewing together is a huge bonus. I am aiming to have 7 hand knitted pairs. I've got 3 pairs and 2 more in production.

Re: Knitting makes friends
Reading about all this knitting has inspired me to get out the beautiful mohair I bought at the Knit and Stitch show last year....OK, the year BEFORE last. It was such beautiful hobbity colours I had to have it, but there was only one skein on the stall, so I've re-knitted it three times to try and get the proportions right. At the moment it's a thin scarf about 12 inches long. If the wool runs out before the scarf is long enough, I may undo it and make a bag.

Hurrah
Have just finished another hat. It's a bit late due to me getting waylaid by "stuff" but it's done and ready to send off as a belated birthday present.
Camera batteries are charging so will post pics tomorrow

Have you considered a lace pattern for it, you save lot of yarn with lace knitting.
Re: Knitting makes friends
I've just finished it - I suppose it is quite lacy because I've knitted it on needles the size of tree trunks!! Now all I need is some cold weather so I can wear it

Re: Knitting makes friends
The pattern is from one of those Learn to Knit mags. I will copy it out and post it up (hope that's not breaking any copyright laws)
It needs to be made out of pure wool as you put it in a hot wash to felt it.
The wool I used for both of them was Freedom Wool by Twilleys
My plan is to make some more over the coming year ready for presents. I want to make a black one and have separate crochet flowers or something that can be pinned on for decoration and swapped about

Re: Knitting makes friends
JellyB that is beautiful
I have just spent the most ridiculous amount of money on some wool (pure 100% wool) to make some socks. Not one of those shops with prices visible, I expected it to be expensive, but was a bit These socks are a one off treat!
What happened to the good old fashioned wool shop?

There are still a few online sellers on the internet that sell those German sock yarns that are good value for money.

Re: Knitting makes friends
I have photographed most of my socks,
I remember vividly that there were more, but maybe I have sorted them out to charity at some stage because they didn't fit properly? Can't remember...
So this is the current lot:
