Yup! A job's a job I suppose, and he is firstly an archaeologist. I am greatly looking forward to an Edwardian Farm. Is it filmed at Acton Scott again?
Re: Edwardian Farm
No it is at a farm on th Tamar, so they get lots of scope to go off and do other stuff nearby. People from Acton scott have helped, as before: we were chatting to several who had just finished filming the last ep when we went there.

Re: Edwardian Farm
Brilliant - I will get my Devon fix too!!! I have just been across to Amazon and ordered the book as my Christmas pressie from OH this year. Oh, and a 2nd hand paperback of a Phil Rickman book I've not read too (The Bones of Avalon).
Re: Edwardian Farm
I hope its better than Victorian Farm was but I'm not holding my breath. If they end every episode with a jolly party with all the people who have been of help to them sitting round n period dress singing hey nonny no I may put my foot through the telly screen.
I rented Tales form Green Valley and watched it all again a few months back and it was amazing how factual and informative it was - just goes to show how rapidly television has gone downhill in the last few years.

Re: Edwardian Farm
Well, I enjoyed the Victorian Farm Billy - even the jolly bits! I have it on DVD and Tales from the Green Valley, and can sit and watch the latter over and over and over . . . I live in the past anyway, so would step back in time yesterday . . .
Re: Edwardian Farm
I agree that TFTGV was far better IMO. I did enjoy Victorian Farm as well though and Acton Scott is an amazing place.

Re: Edwardian Farm
It wasn't the stepping back in tome I object to Abs, it was the dumbing down of the format to have 'plot' in every episode. Just like RC and that Monty Don farm programme and so on - TFTGV was much more factual and less contrived IMO.
Re: Edwardian Farm
Billy
Tales from the Green Valley was the only one that I really enjoyed, the Victorian farm was ok, but so contrived and the BBCs desperate attempts to squeeze more programming out of Acton Scott put me right off the whole 'stepping back' format.
Admittedly, as I am something of a fanboy of the medieval period, I am more likely to get more out of TFGV than later periods.

Re: Edwardian Farm
I have a copy of the Book about building and restoration of the setting for TFTGV, written by the chap who was the mentor in all their efforts...whose name I was about to type but have forgotten suddenly.
Ah ha! Stuart Peachey. The bearded chap who knew what he was doing ( largely because he had been doing it for years!)
A really interesting book. Doesn't talk about the actual filming ( I got the impression there was some contractural reason not but that is just IMO) so not like Victorian Farm book, but still very good.
Might be willing to lend it out if anyone wants to pay the postage, or libraries stock it.
Web site about the place and other stuff he and his company do can be found here

Re: Edwardian Farm
I have that book too CW, and it's really excellent. I got very cross about the problems he had from the powers that be though, over restoring the buildings . . .
Re: Edwardian Farm
Hmmm - you have a point there Billy. EVERYTHING is dumbed down these days 'cos we's all stoopid ain't we? I try to numb my brain with alcohol first, and then it doesn't seem so bad!!
Re: Edwardian Farm
So how are you all enjoying the series then? I loved watching the Fish hatchery but for some reason I'm not as into the Edwardian Farm as I was the Victorian farm. I think perhaps its the advancement in machinery. Its too close to today's living for me. I'd have loved for them to have gone further back in time instead. Still enjoyable though.

Re: Edwardian Farm
Only seen one episode so far, have downloaded the rest, but been too busy to watch them.
I much preferred Tales from the Green Valley, set in the 16/1700's m'self.

Re: Edwardian Farm
I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that Peter Alex and Ruth also participated in Tales, along with a host of other archaeologists, Tales certainly set the standard for the genre.
Re: Edwardian Farm
Yes,Alex and Peter ( although he insisted on being called "Fonz" then, bet he really regrets that now!) and Ruth and her daughter
and all overseen by the wonderous Stuart Peachey, period historian and recreator /enactor extraordinary.
I think it is my favourite of all their re-creation series, it seemed so much more true to life.

You are right Badger, they have done all 3, sometimes with the same experts. I love all the programmes, if you are into Family History it certainly helps to understand the ancestors.

Re: Edwardian Farm
We down loaded the first EdFarm to see what it was like as we found the format of VicFarm too trite. It seemed a bit better so we have now seen all that have been released. I think they are better (but not perfect!).
I did scream and my nan rolled in her grave when Ruth showed in grand/over dramatic style how to scub a stone floor! She didn't clean herself out of the door!!!! And was sitting on part of the floor not scrubbed saying "There done".

whew, I'm glad it wasn't just me.
Re: Edwardian Farm
I don't think much of Ed Farm, Vic was better but the best one of all was TFTGV.
Now THAT, I have watched many times...
