Adult education- - modern methods

I am currently doing a PTLLS course ( Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector) and have been very pleased and surprised at how much is done in a virtual learning environment ( VLE) I can file my assignments online, via email, I can see my marks online in my personal area, there is a whole area devoted to coure notes and various powerpoint presentations we have been shown.

Its a far cry from when I did my degree more than 20 years ago! ...when I hand wrote all my essays and the only thing typed up was my dissertaton and my final year project!

Does any one else have experience of this more modern approach? Is it the norm, now?

I must add the Forest School Leader training I did last year, although I was sent the outline for the portfolio by cd rom...was still required to be printed off and submitted in a folder on paper.

well, I accessed the online centre, filed 3 tasks and did an on line IT assessment...all very easy I must say and hopefully will save having to print it all out onto dead tree as well...

I guess its common on the OU, but I have never (yet) done an OU course , so this is a new experience for me!

By then, that is what learning is meant to be.....

its very common in both my kids schools do do homework online and `post` it to teachers for marking, Maths, music ( composition) various assignments-makes it easier for the teachers to store it all! Not to mention the unlimited resources the net has to offer.

Thats interesting Pod...I think it is a good thing..although if you don't have access to a computer I could see it might make life difficult........

yes but i think the kids have acces to computers at lunch times and after school in their library ( and the local library) the challenge is keeping up with the software!!!
