Employment Tribunal Reforms.

Employment Tribunal Reforms.
This morning on the wireless, Vince Cable was announcing reforms of the Employment Tribunals.
Not sensible reforms, like measures to make them operate efficiently (for example having judges that actually know a bit of law), but steps instead to reduce the number of claims.
They plan to extend the qualifying period to two years and introduce fees to claimants.
At this stage, it is a consultation, so if you are bothered, then [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
Though having looked at the consultation form, it does not fill me with much confidence. :?

I had it in my diary to start the revolution yesterday, but the latest idiocy from the tribunal left me too depressed.Lottie wrote:I'll add it to me list, HL... it's a dictatorship not a government...
It can wait for another day.

I'll stick my head above the parapet and suggest that the reforms aren't really that bad. We need employment right now, and if I was an employer (and I was along time ago) I'd be reluctant to take anyone on right now, things are just too unpredictable. If it becomes easier to "let people go" then maybe employers will take the chance on employing new people.

Some of them are not.mark barker wrote:I'll stick my head above the parapet and suggest that the reforms aren't really that bad.
Putting more energy into mediation is probably a good thing.
Personally I would like to see better use of the internet: a forum like this one, though obviously kept private, strikes me as an ideal platform to discuss the matters at hand.
It is in no way difficult to "let people go". All you have to do is have a fair and proper process. If it becomes easier to "let people go" then maybe employers will take the chance on employing new people.
