Hello from Arkansas!
My name is MaeLee. I'm 40 years young and the mother of 5; 4 boys and 1 girl. I live in Arkansas and growing up here, we lived very much like they did during the "olden days." We didn't have running water and we grew pretty much everything we ate. We slaughtered our own meat and had a smokehouse. We hunted, fished, and whatnot. My stepmother sewed nearly all of our clothing. Looking back, it really wasn't a bad way to grow up at all. Unfortunately, like alot of others, I've gotten away from that life and feel like it's time to make some changes. I see the way the world is moving and am thinking it's going to become more and more necessary to be as self-sufficient as possible. This seems like a great forum and I hope to learn alot and contribute as well.

Hi there MaeLee and welcome from me too
Fascinated to hear about how your life was growing up and what changes you plan to make to help you regain some of that simple life.

Thanks so much for the wonderful welcome!
I'm really excited to start my journey back to the simple life I grew up with...You should have seen how corny and excited I was earlier looking at my tomato plants and the one lil ol' green tomato I have thus far LOL I've got a 55 gal plastic barrel that I'm planning to paint black make into a tumbling compost bin...Yup I really am excited

Re: Hello from Arkansas!
Well, I'm a little late to the party (been awefully busy) but Welcome, and enjoy your stay!!
Still in the country? Moving back? Or are you urban homesteading these days?
We're trying to make the most of our in town lot in Central IL, always good to share notes.
Oh, and I'm sure you've been into gardening weather in AK already. We had a frost last night here!!
