Welcome message
I was just trying to find the welcome message that I'm sure I read once by Badger, which explained what the forum was all about. I can't find it. If I log out and view the forum main page, I get a floaty box with the odd word or two, and a "Welcome" section with no obvious "mission statement" (sorry, I hate management speak but couldn't think of a better way to put it), but it does have a long list of rules ... gives quite an impression quite contrary to the nature of the forum !

Re: Welcome message
What I mean is that I get a popup box with
"Welcome to The Homemade Life - a community of individuals trying to live a simpler quieter life.
To take full advantage of everything .... " etc., (Ok, it is more than a couple of words, I admit !)
This kind of hovers around in the middle of the browser window and behaves like it is trying to get in the way of what you're reading behind it, until you hit Login, Register or Do not display again. It is kind of annoying and inevitably will get dismissed quickly.
This leaves (some of) the welcome section of the forum, but under "Say hello and introduce yourself here" there are just a couple of technical stickys, the rules, and one enticing message to guests from Lottie.
Should there be a sticky post somewhere conspicuous in the welcome section saying at greater length what it is all about ? I thought there used to be ? Am I just missing something ?
If it is relevant, I'm using Firefox 4, which I am not yet fully used to ...

Re: Welcome message
I wonder if [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is what you have been thinking about
Re: Welcome message
That didn't give me what I'm meaning, but it could be due to cookies ... I mean this:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
.. Which ducks around like a drunkard trying to get their face in a TV camera.
But the main point is is there / should there not be a fuller message of what it is all about somewhere as a sticky post ?
