How Many Different Uses For... Empty wine bottles & wine bottle corks...
"Underground, Overground, Wombling Free,
The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we.
Making good use of the things that we find,
Things that the everyday folks leave behind.
We're so incredibly, utterly devious
Making the most of everything.
Even bottles and tins.
Pick up the pieces and make them into something new,
Is what we do!"
The lyrics from the first & last verse of "The Wombling Song"
Thinking of Elisabeth Beresford who passed away over the Xmas period, I thought it may be nice to pick an everyday object each month & see how many different ideas for uses we can come up with...

Slice the corks & stick to a board, you then have a notice board that is easy to pin things on.

Not mine, no.
Sadly I have very little time for crafting these days, but I still subscribe to various make and craft blogs - these are the work of clever folk on the interwebs. I tend to save images of stuff that inspires me in the vain hope that one day I will have the time to recreate them for myself..

At Unpackaged http://beunpackaged.com/products/
you can take a bottle along and refill it. (I usually use one with a screw top)
And of course, under these circumstances it is probably best not to keep it too long before drinking!

Showing complete lack of imagination, I use old corks to start the log burner!

Real corks will compost and plastic ones are an abomination - support old growth cork oak forests and buy proper corks in your wine!

Wine bottles = candle holders as in the 1960s/1970s. Especially with the drips down the bottle. Will be good when the leccy goes!!

Repeating myself here I know, but I was quite tickled by this one:
Re: How Many Different Uses For... Empty wine bottles & wine bottle corks...
Although that looks more milk bottle than wine bottle TBH.
No one has mention making little boats out of corks using a pin and litlle piece of paper as a sail and a penny piece as ballast.

Corks fit really well into the ends of bike handlebars... We're not allowed to take kids on cycling courses if their hand grips don't cover the ends of the bars (and most don't as they've been split due to the bikes being repeatedly dropped), so I shove corks in them and all is well! Gets a few comments from the parents though!

Re: How Many Different Uses For... Empty wine bottles & wine bottle corks...
Mark's post reminds me that I found a use for the horrible plastic corks. When I replaced the flush on the outside loo with an Opella water-saving dual flush with internal overflow, I needed close up the old overflow, and didn't have a blanking plug. A plastic cork fits just nicely inside a 22mm overflow compression fitting.
Surprised not to see some construction suggestions for wine bottles - embedded in "feature" walls, added crushed to concrete and polished when set for a colourful floor, lawn edging ... and making ineffective greenhouse heating devices . Perhaps that's too boring ?

Refill empty bottles with wine or cordial.
Char the end of a cork , cool & use as black facepaint.
