Mushrooms Empty Mushrooms

Post by Chilli-head 8th July 2011, 1:55 pm

The autumn seed catalogues have started to drop onto the doormat, and in them are lots of tempting things.

One of the sections that always looks really tempting are the mushrooms, but I have to wonder if there is anything more than wishful thinking here - all the attempts I (and my father, who is fond of mushrooms) have tried have lead to not much more than a swarm of small black flies !. We've had polysyreen tray type things, loo rolls in the fridge, and logs with oyster and shitake supposedly in them - no joy. We have grown them at work sucessfully, but only with controlled light/temperature/humidity/CO2 levels in a special chamber. Anyone had any joy with a more domestic system ? If so, please share !

John Cossham grows them on logs, very successfully I think!
