New Home for DD
Next week, Lucy is moving into a new house, after a horrid couple of months with her so-called house "mates"!
I'll be going down for the weekend after she's moved her stuff in and wanted to give her something or do something to give her and the house some positive energy and hopefully she will be able to settle and get over the bad things that have happened over the past couple of years
Any ideas??

Re: New Home for DD
There is this tradition in Germany that you bring some bread, salt and a penny when you enter someone's new home for the first time.
As a talisman against running out of bread, salt and money.
Sometimes it is all done together in a very small loaf with salt in a small hollow on top, and the penny stuck in on the side.
If not appropriate, maybe you could create your own version of it with things you don't want Lucy ever to run out of.
A plant could also be a good reminder that things are growing better.

Billy, she'd rather have Amy Lee or Scabby Christina!
Seils, I'm taking her my old breadmaker and I reckon she's had quite enough money out of me recently but I can spare a penny. It's a nice idea though.

Re: New Home for DD
What I do...and do it twice a year here as well...!
Move furnature into middle of room..go round the room with bells and music, clap in the corners high and low, "sweep" the old/stale out through the open windows, sprinkkle a pinch of salt into the corners, a drop of an essential oil of choice .....could even use a smudge stick if you really feel the need?
then give it a good vaccumn out ( well, you were probably going to anyway?)
and then light candles, inscense or whatever, and put on really lively music and have a dance...them open wine ( or beverage of choice) and toast the new room..
Repeat in each room...ending with bedroom, whee you fall into an insensible heap
I find it really helps to freshen up a room and make it feel like home.....probably just the open windows but ...who knows?
Works for me, anyway!

A new broom.
Since function defines what it is any would do in our tradition. But some witches use the nice handmade ones for this purpose in which case they usually get hung as decoration instead of being used. Results in a "broom making" workshop always being popular.

Re: New Home for DD
Ohh, good ideas folks, thanks
Chicken, I had a walk round the Christmas Market last night and one stall has quartz and rose quartz tea light holders so a couple of those would be nice
CW, I'm sure some alkeyhole will be involved :drunken: singing and dancing can also be arranged.
Haven't done smudging before, is there a specifc technique to it or do I just "go with the flow"?

Re: New Home for DD
AJB, I think its just a matter of using the rising smoke from the bundle to purify the air and the energies? I haven't used them specifically, I tend to wave an incense stick around as a substitute.....but I rather think the principle is the same...
I expect someone who knows may chip in at this point! but I think "go with the flow" is always a good plan....
Hope you have a really lovely time

Re: New Home for DD
Well we didn't do smudging but we opened windows, ran around like mad things chasing bad spirits out and opened doors to let good ones in and we drank alkeyhole :drunken:
We also put the Christmas tree up so it looks really homely and pretty

JellyB it sounds lovely. Hope she has happiness there. I bet she'll love having the bathroom just for her (I remember that thrill when I got my own place )

JB - so pleased for her. The house sounds lovely and I hope she's really happy there. I used to hate being in a house share and don't think I've ever really liked any of my housemates (not counting Mr C!). Just having my own space is so important and made my life so much easier.
