... and we're not talking wicker caskets and woodland burials !

So, in addition to the conventional fates of being buried or burnt, you may now have the option of being liquefied and poured down the drain, or freeze dried and composted !

What do you reckon ? I might consider being freeze dried and spread on the vegetable plot at two handfuls per square yard, but I don't much fancy being liquified ! Urgh !

Soylent Green starts to sound ever more prophetic.

Make Room! Make Room! the very excellent Harry Harrison novel on which Soylent Green was based was very prophetic indeed. The film discarded a lot of the core stuff about the dangers of population growth and just focused on the cannibalism aspect.

So, none of the problematic, social and climate issues arising from over population that Hollywood would have trouble selling on the public, just the savoury people eating bits and end of life scare tactics? So not suprising.

I did actually try a career in marketing. With ideas like that. Which is how I got where I am today. I still maintain Abzorba the Sponge was a winner.

Here in Australia you can actually donate your body to the Universities if you live (or die) close enough to them. There's a whole process of paperwork to go through when you are alive though.

Do they do that anywhere else?

Not sure about whole body donations, but you can be a donor, in which case I would assume that they would take what they need at any given time.

There are several cryo centres I think Badger, not my idea of fun, I don`t think my descendants or anyone would want to revive me.

Having talked with the DSs I want a woodland thing & to be covered with bluebells.

I'm sure you can; medical students need something to practice on after all. This reminds me of the most bizzare exhibit in the history of computing exhibition at the science museum - the brain of Charles Babbage pickled in a jar !

I heard somewhere that cryogenics wouldn't physically be able to work because when you where woken up the liquid nitrogen in your veins would poison you. I think. Either that or the freezing would burst your cells. Something like that.

Actually, it's always baffled me why it is illegal to bury livestock (since foot & mouth) but not to bury humans. They say it's because of disease risk. In reality animals very rarely die of disease - they're more likely to die on their backs, choke, get stuck in something, hang themselves, or drop dead out of spite. Humans are far more likely to die of a disease.
