Re: Revision techniques
It's been years since I had to revise for an exam, and I can't say I miss the experience. Still, two points that I really believe in:
1: Revision is easiest when it is just revision; i.e., you have already absorbed and understood it first time around. Because I am not a quick handwriter, this often meant I was best not taking full notes in lectures, but focusing on listening and understanding. The notes could be photocopied from a tame swot for the price of a beer or two.
2: I liked to read through the notes the night before the exam. Less time to forget !

Re: Revision techniques
I've never found a method of revision that works for me, although thats possibly because I'm too lazy to try and revise!
I used to marvel at the folks I was at uni with when they had their revision notes dotted all around their houses and elaberate spider charty things all over the place!

Re: Revision techniques
I think half my charts may be spidery, Mark, mainly due to a spider wandering over them..
I find if I read stuff at night it really sinks in too, here's hoping! I've got a revision day in Cambridge on Saturday, going up with a matey, so that'll be fun, he's driving, I'm supervising..

Re: Revision techniques
this is what I got with the VARK test:
our scores were:
Visual: 6
Aural: 12
Read/Write: 13
Kinesthetic: 11
You have a multimodal (ARK) learning preference.
Lottie, did you check the helpsheets underneath? about to plunge into them myself.

Re: Revision techniques
OK 1 week to go...
Any tips for the last week? I'm now re reading the blocks as a kinda novel... I've read better...
I feel that my brain is completely overloaded and when I remember something new, I lose other stuff...

Re: Revision techniques
I'd be tempted to suggest walking away from the books... Too much rereading can be confusing, so have faith in your revision to date and have a week off.

Re: Revision techniques
good advice Mark. I would probably leave it too, sounds like your pretty prepared. Two days before your exam do some reading. Just for a few hours and then put it away. Make sure you get plenty of sleep and water.

Re: Revision techniques
Down time is definitely the right thing. I found lots of nice long walks really helped me before exams.
Good luck!

Re: Revision techniques
Now Lottie - calm down because you've done the work! Try to relax and think about what you do know rather than worrying about what you don't know. One technique when you get into the exam room is to run through some facts (dates? significant events?) just to 'prime' your mind and remind yourself that you know your stuff.

Re: Revision techniques
I took my super condensed falsh card notes with me and flicked through them when i stopped for a thermos break en route and in the carpark and before going in. Not trying to cram last minute, but I found it reassuring - a calming process that kept my mind on the fact that i was well prepared and did in fact know my s.... tuff rather than getting my brain into panic mode.
You will do brilliantly, Lotster. I have every faith in you.

Re: Revision techniques
Awww group hug!!
Thank you. I am doing just that, Billy, I've found a weird technique that kinda works... reading my cram cards whilst pacing most strange but it's really calming. I wonder if they'll let me do circuits of the exam room?
Thanks so much for the support it has so helped, I feel OK now, can't be bothered to do anymore tonight, I shall have a look see in the morning. My mate is driving me in, he's also doing the exam too. Gawd help him, I shall probably be clinging to his knees as we got out of the car....

Aw, good luck Lottie!!! You'll be fine! Have a nice warm bath, destress, and have a good sleep tonight. Eat well tomorrow, and stay hydrated.
