Re: What Veg You Are Planting...
Went to a lovely garden centre this morning (Mr D's archery was cancelled because it was too cold). Have now got a new substantial stake for one of the apple trees which got a bit blown about in the autumn, some seed potatoes, and Mr D got a pixie mask in the post-Christmas sale. We also had a cup of tea and some scrumptious coffee and walnut cake in the cafe, which led to us trying out our best Mary Berry impersonations.

Am collecting the tubes for broadies: now there are only three of us at home it takes a bit longer! Have got some of last years packet of The Sutton, and also some crimson flowered ones from the heritage seed library.

At last, first planting of the year - peppers, chillies and very early tomatoes, all currently in the propagator. All of these will be grown on in the greenhouse. Hoping to get potatoes in planter very soon, which will also be brought on in the greenhouse.

Sowed a few garlic chive seeds, and some Primo cabbages to bring on in modules.

Re: What Veg You Are Planting...
My potatoes went in on Friday at the allotment; it is my tradition each year to plant them on my birthday ... don't know why. I was very pleased with the compost heap I turned out for them (I suppose I must be middle aged now if that's what makes me happy !)

I have just covered my first lot of potato shoots. They have grown really well, just hope I get a nice crop.

Re: What Veg You Are Planting...
Me too - I'll try to water them more this year, as I think that's why they didn't have lots of potatoes last year. I'm experimenting to see which soil is better - one I'm filling with a mixture of home made compost and peat-free compost, and the other is filled with composty soil from the chicken run.
Three kinds of tomato seeds planted now (Black Russian, Roma and Yellow Brandywine), patty pan squashes and a few trays of half hardy annuals to pretty things up!! Oh, also lots of flowerpots of peas sitting in the cold frame, to plant out when they're a decent size. Most are Douce Provence, but two pots are 'Tutenkhamun' from the heritage seed library. They are originally from the garden at Highclere, the home of Lord Caernarvon, and the (probably completely spurious) suggestion is that they may have originated in the tomb of king Tut

Re: What Veg You Are Planting...
Having emptied several pots of potatoes, I think I shall not buy seed potatoes next year, but get them from the bags that I get from the local farm shop. The crop, though very nice is very small.
