Holland and Barrett ban plastic bags
Found today in the news: article here
Good to see someone from a large chain doing this. Will others follow?

The local big supermarket chain used to charge for plastic bags, then they decided to "help you out at xmas and shoulder the load" so stopped charging, no sign of them charging again.

Hooray, it might start off with a drip as others join in slowly but hopefully it might be the begining...

I find it really weird when I see Brit returning to France with hundreds of placky bags. In France they were banned in - I think - 2003. End of story. Everyone takes their own bags in with them. No problem!

Saw a letter in the paper the other day from someone taking exception to the Disney Store charging for a carrier bag ans commenting on the over packaging of their merchandise. I was a bit shocked to be asked if I wanted to buy a bag in there. fortunately I had a cloth one with me anyway.
I can see where the Disney Store is coming from and applaud their efforts, but do resent being asked to pay for a bag in there. Is this illogical?

We've had to pay for plastic bags here in Ireland for some time. I think it has made quite a difference to people's attitudes and the amount of plastic going to landfill. Most people now have a stock of reusable bags.
