I don't pretend to know anything much about Israel, but someone quoted the bible at me yesterday...

Jeremiah 30:3 wrote:The days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity and restore them to the land I gave their forefathers to possess,' says the LORD."

And it occurred to me that it was not God that restored them to the land, but the UN.
Perhaps all the strife since is a punishment for the blasphemy of the UN playing god?

My mothers mother (a German Jew) once said that the only thing the jews had learned from the Shoah was efficient ways to oppress people weaker than themselves.

She was delighted that Israel was created, but she said she could never live there while her people sought to emulate what had just happened to them. My mother says that the Palestinian/Israel conflict broke her heart and she died still campaigning for peace between the two sides. Thanks to her I have been a member of the Peace Pledge Union since I was a nipper..
