Re: Midsummer
What a change to have a full day of sun, to make the most of the longest day. Nothing exciting for us as we're just back from holiday, so spent the most of the day driving, and spent a chunk of this evening watering the plants.

Re: Midsummer
Didn't celebrate but just appreciated the glorious day. The sky is still light now at 10.15 & I can see a couple of bats flying

I LOVE this time of year - isn't it great that we have good weather, so it's light for as long as possible in the evening...

Re: Midsummer
Happy Solstice all. Not a bad day here, we have a bit of sun, and I'm off to edible ornamentals chilli farm for lunch as my father's day treat
I was just depressed to see a photo on Facebook of Stonehenge this morning as the revellers had left it. Garbage strewn everywhere. What is it with these people ? After the Bodgers ball, there is rarely need for more than one black bag to clear the entire site.

Re: Midsummer
The sun is not showing its face at all here today.
I heard that there were 23,000 people at Stonehenge this morning and that it seemed to have become a 'visitor experience package' (KFC, Premier Inn & off to see the sun rise). I am so lucky to have visited Stonehenge before it was fenced off (early to mid seventies). I detoured on my travels west and visited quite early in the morning. There was only my travelling companion and me there and we walked amongst the stones. It is an awesome place with a unique atmosphere that, sadly, very few people will be now able to experience.

Re: Midsummer
I've just read back, and see that I spent most of last summer solstice driving. And so I have today as well. Spent the weekend on the edge of Shropshire, and came back today.
Hope it's been a good one for you all.

A good day here. Went over to Edible ornamentals for lunch - along with all the other chilli-head dads of Bedfordshire and beyond ! Came away with chilli sauces, chipotles, and one plant - paper lantern, a Chinense type. Not that I really have space; I already have 20 or so chilli plants which have spilled out of the greenhouse and onto the patio.
Home for an impromptu barbecue this evening. Happily I have some locally sourced charcoal (my friend Simon over at Wimpole makes it) which is quite quick to light. Must pick up some more next weekend at the scythe festival.

I can imagine that the scythe festival might have some extra visitors this year...

Don't get too excited - there are more men with big beards than without shirts ! Simon is the most commonly shirtless scyther, but I'm sure it is just to cut down on the laundry
There is a little ragged patch of grass at Wimpole thast was mowed by me, on my first go with a scythe. Much practice needed, I feel.
