Re: We are getting chickens!
There it is! An A-frame chicken tractor. 1/3 is the coop itself, a little less than 1/3 is covered and the rest of it is open air. Both ends are fully removable for easy access. The door is opened from the outside. Plus we hope to let them free-range every day.

Re: We are getting chickens!
Very smart. I've taken the liberty of turning the photos the right way up so that the chickens don't get a rush of blood to the head When are the occupants due to arrive Tamara ?
I had a few beers with some friends on Friday, and one of them was showing me the chicken run he was building in the garden. I fear I may have drunkenly volunteered to look after his hens when they go on holiday ...

That looks a good job Tamara, I wondered how you were getting on with it. Very sensible to have a covered part outside as keeping food dry can be a nightmare.
Chilli Head - chicken sitting will be good practice for when you have your own!

Thanks CH, the chicks will be here on May. Couldn't get a mord precise date though.
Thanks ploshkin! Yes i hope that will do. I have to check now that it's been out in the rain if it's waterproof!

Looking good Tamara.
I have had a date for my new girls, 23rd May. I expect you will have yours by then.

Re: We are getting chickens!
Presumably Tamara has chooks by now.
We collected our new girls last Saturday. Three ex cage hens. Not too scraggy as apparently if you're merging with established birds the BHWT suggest having quite feathery girls to reduce the pecking. They are sorted out and Daisy, who is the bottom of the order, has taken to sitting on the hen-house roof to keep out of the way. It's been interesting to see her skills improve daily. The first time she was up there it took her ages to pluck up the courage to get down and she chose too shallow an angle so slightly crashed into the wire netting. Now she does a neat jump and a flap for a lovely tidy landing.
I was going to post a couple of pics but I can't make it work. Don't have url as they're on my computer and did the hosting thing but they have disappeared into the ether.
