Handmade - BBC4
This sounds like a series for us.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05ttnd7/broadcasts/upcoming
Three part series filmed without voiceover or music so the focus is entirely on the craft process.
A glass jug, steel blade and Windsor chair.
Not on Iplayer yet, but time to catch it on Beeb 4.
Enjoy.

Thanks for that CH - I'll look out for it on the iPlayer.

Re: Handmade - BBC4
I hope this isn't going off the subject, but we're completely new to iPlayer (our steam-driven computer is so old and slow that it's pointless watching any sort of moving picture on it!). Mr D bought a Hudl as a retirement present to himself, so we've been learning how to plug it in to the TV and find things we want to watch from iPlayer. But over the last week, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday evening it completely refused to play. The Hudl was working, the TVwas working, we just couldn't get iPlayer. Is this standard? Does it just crash sometimes?

I have a Hudl, but not a TV, so can't help you there. Have watched iPlayer on the Hudl though.

The times are in the weblink above.
9pm 4/5/15 then 1am 5/5/15 for glass and metal.
8pm 6/5/15 then 1am 7/5/15 for wood.
Can you get BBC 4 where you are Tamara ?

Oh dear.
I've just watched the glass one.

If only ! OK, no voiceover or music, check. "focus is entirely on the craft process" ? 'Fraid not. When the glass was being cut from the stock bar, we can hear the scoring going on, but we are seeing static shot of a stack of glass rods on the shelf. The workpiece is in the furnace, meanwhile the assistant's head is between us and the work, and the camera man appears to be more interested in her tattoos and - bizzarely - the glassworker's trainers than the workpiece. Another programme that could have been great ruined by arty nit-wits behind the camera who aren't really interested in the craft at all. Terribly disappointed.

Hah - Looks like Simon has had his own go behind the camera in the forge over at Wimpole. Forging a ram's head hook:

I watched the glass programme on the iPlayer. I did find the focussing on a single object (and not necessarily the relevant one) with everything else out of focus incredibly irritating.
Tbh, a bit of voice-over wouldn't have come amiss, as it would have explained some parts of the process that visuals alone could not.
It was ok ish, and I will watch the others if I remember.

I'm at the bodgers ball at the moment, and the chair maker has his tent a few yards away, ao it might be interesting to see how he found the process.

Re: Handmade - BBC4
I did bump in to Jim Steele, the chairmaker, whilst tidying up. He was a bit bemused about the shots of his wife hanging the washing, but thought that the artiness helped to add interest for a wider range of people. Perhaps he has a point. I found the Wood episode least frustrating, probably because I know the methods already. His view was that if it were to attract anyone to make a chair, go on a course, etc, then it was a good thing. The filming took 5 days for the 30 minute programme, and about 4 different chairs !
