Homemade onion sets Empty Homemade onion sets

Just found this on the web:

Kings Seeds wrote:
We suggest it is possible to produce your own sets, sow seed into seed tray in the middle of June and keep watering until the onions have reached set size, at this stage stop watering and allow to dry off. When dry, thin off withered stems and store sets in a cool dry position in a seed tray ready for planting the following spring.

What do you think. Is it worth the trouble ? Anyone tried it ?

Homemade onion sets Empty Re: Homemade onion sets

I haven't - would never have occurred to me. If I had onion seed I would maybe give it a try, but not going to buy some especially. Perhaps there will be some in the next seed swap....
