Plastic rubbish blights Atlantic Ocean - WARNING, contains graphic images
Scientists have discovered an area of the North Atlantic Ocean where plastic debris accumulates.
The region is said to compare with the well-documented "great Pacific garbage patch".

My comment? Am appalled at how wasteful and careless we are, as a species.

It horrifies me that we can so wilfully throw rubbish to the wind, so to speak, when we know what problems it causes.
Things in this area I hate
Charity balloons
The balloon lanterns which are now on sale in toy shoips I see.

Perhaps someone should start printing pictures of the turtles etc who are starving because of the plastic bags on the bags themselves, that might make people think

Perhaps might want to add a Warning graphic image to the header of this thread?

Unfortunately I think that most people really don't care
Re: Plastic rubbish blights Atlantic Ocean - WARNING, contains graphic images
You could be right, but I am sure that some do care, they just are not aware of what is happening & all the time TV & newspapers sensationalise it instead of serious discussion that will be the case.

Eco club at school raised over £300 for the RSPB save the albatross appeal...while most of that goes on warning streamers on long line fishing lines...some also went on the plastic clean up campaign, because lots of chicks die from starvtion, having been fed plastic by their poor deluded parents....
CG suggested the idea and all the school spent a day doing stuff to raise funds...
So some people care.....but yes, not enough..
I sat and watched the TV programme abou this a couple of years back, in tears the whole way through....

Well done to CG & the Eco club. I am sure CG spreads the word in her own way.

Is there any idea about where this debris is coming from specifically - dumping at sea? Washed off beaches? It always makes me mad that beaches have so much rubbish on them, but presumably this can't account for all the crud in the sea. Out of sight, out of mind.....
