A cup of butter
I want to make something for which I have a recipe using north American cups. I do actually own such cups, but dopes anyone know how much a cup of butter would weigh?
Or should I just fill a cup with water, weigh that and then use same amount of butter?

Re: A cup of butter
An American cup is like a small mug. It is worth finding one that is the right size (I had one but my son broke it ) as its the easiest way to make pumpkin pie. It is 8 fluid oz in size.
I looked at the info I use and it only has "sticks' of butter. Peanut butter 1 cup is 8oz though!

I think I might do that, but not tonight! I've made these before - but possible not for about 25 years, and can't remember what I did last time - I think that may have been it.

Re: A cup of butter
1 cup butter = 8 oz. (Same as a liquid measure)
There are 2 Tbls per oz of butter which weighs 28 grams.
Most butter in the US is sold in 1 lb blocks for baking. It is divided into 4 cubes or sticks. 2 cubes/sticks = 1 cup.
Hope this helps.......

Re: A cup of butter
You are most welcome JG....since I am amongst the minority of Americans here in this forum, I thought I would step up and share my expertise about our crazy measurements here! Of course it is all I know and when all of you speak in metric I am lost without my conversion calculator! It is something I tend to forget about the differences in the recipes!
